About us

The League of Friends of the City Hospital remains separate from the QMC, operating as an independent charity for the benefit of the City Hospital.  The League is run by volunteers – all of the money raised and donated is used entirely for the benefit of the City Hospital.

Not a week goes by without people commenting on the peaceful surroundings of the Chapel.  This would not have been possible without the generous help of the League of Friends.

Meetings and Events

During 2017 we were pleased to part sponsor the NUH Staff Long Service Awards, the Volunteer Long Service Awards, and the Nurse and Midwife of the Year Awards. All of these events are a wonderful celebration of the work of the exceptionally committed and skilled staff working across the NUH.

COMMITTEE MEETINGS are held once per month on Tuesday evenings, when donations received and requests made for support are discussed, as well as fund-raising and other activity.

THE ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING was held on Tuesday 10th October 2017 beginning at 7 pm in Sherwood Hall at the City Hospital. There were the usual annual reports, including resignations and re-elections to the committee. In addition to League of Friends members, we were joined by NUH Chief Executive Dr Peter Homa, Ms Sue Haines, Assistant Chief Nurse, NUH Trust, Head of Voluntary Services Kerry Harper, staff from other Departments and Wards across the City Hospital, and Friends from QMC and other Leagues. We were privileged to be brought up to date with NUH business by Dr Peter Homa, and were inspired by our guest speaker, Dr Jonathan Pollock, Consultant, Plastic Surgery and Reconstruction who talked to us about the amazing work that he and his team undertake. All in all we had a successful meeting which, followed by light refreshments, made for an enjoyable evening.

This year, as an additional fundraising event, we are organising a QUIZ to be held on 30th April starting at 7 pm at the Salvation Army Hall in Arnold. Tickets will be on sale very soon. Watch this space!

The annual LACE MARKET THEATRE event will be held on Tuesday 26th June 2018 at 7.30 pm. The performance is Rough Crossing by Tom Stoppard, described as a hilarious play matching screwball comedy with Tom Stoppard’s typical sophisticated wit. Tickets for this event are £13 each and can be obtained from Carole Brown on 0115 9261299 or by email carole100brown@btinerrnet.com.

The ANNUAL CONCERT will be held on Saturday 10th November 2018 and we look forward to another varied performance of music and prose from the BLUECOAT CHOIR. More information to follow.
